Well, if nothing else, the title surely sounds very intriguing. What kind of hot did the developers have in mind? Are we expecting hellish flames or attractive women? Maybe both? Or perhaps this is a spice-themed slot game and the reels will be covered in jalapenos? No? No. It’s neither of those things and probably the best part about the title is that it gives your imagination a little exercise. This slot game is as classic and old-school as they come. Everything from the layout to the symbols is reminiscent of the old slot machines, the forefathers of today’s online slots. If you like vintage style slots, the retro feel of Lucky Hot will surely appeal to you. The icons, the graphics and even the setup are all pretty basic and don’t expect any grand animations to dazzle you. But that’s also what a retro kind of slot ought to be like, isn’t it? Well, to each his own, as they say. The rather scant choice of symbols doesn’t offer much diversity, but at least the symbols themselves look decent.
This game is really, really old-school, as deep as its layout and setup even. You won’t be seeing the regular EGT 5 reels here. In Lucky Hot there are only 3 reels and 3 rows. Furthermore, the paylines are limited to five, which isn’t common with this developer at all. And better yet, they don’t even allow you to modify them. Not that’s there’s much to modify, anyway. The design of the game is also pretty simple, it offers a nice background of merging yellow, orange and red colors – fitting for the theme and basically the only one of two things that gives it away. The symbols in Lucky Hot are the staple fruits: oranges, plums, lemons (yes, it’s a fruit) and cherries. There are also gold bells, matching gold stars and gold bars to go with them. Last but not least, you have the traditional 7’s, as well.The winning combinations in this game start from the leftmost reel – that’s pretty customary. But seeing as there are only three reels here, the developers needed to get creative and juggle the standard gameplay. So, if you manage to land 9 of any of the fruit symbols, this will grant you a multiplier of the total game win of x2. Multipliers are actually a great feature, which not too many EGT slots offer. It’s a classic and is by all means fitting for this theme. The second thing that answered to the name of the slot (aside from the background) is the animation feature. When you spin a winning combination, the icons forming it will go up in flames. The graphics aren’t really what we’d call exciting, though.
So, we’re reached this critical point in our review and to those of you who are familiar with vintage slots, you might already know what to expect. As for the rest of you, we’re not sure how to say this. But here it goes: there’s no bonus feature. Not one. There are no Wild symbols, no Scatter symbols, no special symbols at all. In this sense, one could argue that it’s about staying true to the theme. However, this eats away tremendously at the whole feel of the game. We fear anyone who would be into a more dynamic gameplay would very quickly take their business elsewhere.
On the brighter side of things, though, Lucky Hot has EGT’s staple extra features, which in this case are basically saving what little there is to save. The jackpot feature offers a great opportunity to win one of the four available progressive jackpots. You will notice them above the main screen, each marked with a separate playing card suit. The feature becomes active completely randomly at any given point in the game. It will present you with a set of 12 playing cards, from which you will have to gather 3 of the same suit. Depending on the suit you collected, your reward will be the jackpot of that same suit.

And of course we have the lovely Gamble feature. Though it doesn’t make for a tremendous win opportunity, it’s one that is available throughout most of the game. It also makes for a decent win. After you have spun a winning sequence of symbols, the Gamble button will appear under the won amount. Click on it to play a card game, where you have to guess the correct color. You will either end up doubling your wins several times, or losing it altogether.
